Doxorubicin Resveratrol Interaction Studies

Doxorubicin + Resveratrol

Study Name PubMed Notes:
Resveratrol enhances the sensitivity of doxorubicin-mediated cell proliferation, invasion, and migration in human breast cancer cell lines  http://www.fasebj.org/content/24/1_Supplement/964.10.short Resveratrol increased the cancer killing effect of doxorubicin, on doxorubicin resistant cancer cells. It also reduced the ability of the cancer cells to spread and invade other tissues (Study Summary).
May Be Synergistic Cell Study (In Vitro)
Study Name PubMed Notes:
Resveratrol Reduces the Hypoxia-Induced Resistance to Doxorubicin in Breast Cancer Cells www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov Some cancer cells use an enzyme called CBR1 to convert Doxorubicin into a less toxic form. This allows them to be more drug resistant. Resveratrol was able to reduce the quantity of CBR1, and make the cancer cells more vulnerable to Doxorubicin treatment.
May Be Synergistic Cell Study (In Vitro)
Study Name PubMed Notes:
Proteomic Profiling Reveals That Resveratrol Inhibits HSP27 Expression and Sensitizes Breast Cancer Cells to Doxorubicin Therapy www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov The resistance of some cancer cells to doxorubicin therapies is caused by abnormal expression of HSP27. Resveratrol decreases levels of HSP27 which makes cancer cells more susceptible to doxorubicin treatment and itself induces cancer cell death.
May Be Synergistic Cell Study (In Vitro)
Study Name PubMed Notes:
Different Effects of Resveratrol on Dose-Related Doxorubicin-Induced Heart and Liver Toxicity www.hindawi.com Doxorubicin is an effective antitumor drug which is limited by its side effects, in particular damage to the heart and liver. This study in rats show that resveratrol attenuates heart and liver damage from high doses of doxorubicin.
May Be Protective Cell Study (In Vitro)
Study Name PubMed Notes:
Resveratrol-induced autophagy promotes survival and attenuates doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov Although doxorubicin is a highly effective antitumor drug, it has considerable side effects with significant toxicity to heart cells. This study examines if resveratrol can decrease the toxicity of doxorubicin to heart cells. They find that combination treatment of doxorubicin with resveratrol decreases toxicity to heart cells in cell lines and rats.
